Area of research: Plasma Physics
Member of the Department of Plasma Physics and Radiation-Matter Interaction of the ICN-UNAM.

Research interests: Magnetic Fusion Plasmas, Transport Theory, Astrophysical and Space Plasmas

Position held: Research Scientist (Investigador Titular A)

Our small plasma physics group at the ICN is currently interested in problems realted to fusion research, and I am personally involved with:

Transport (neoclassical and anomalous) in presence of edge radial electric fields and the related plasma rotation (as in L-H transition)
Plasma-wave interaction, in particular, lower hybrid current drive (LWCD) effects on wave spectrum and electron cyclotron (EC) modification of plasma dynamics
Magnetic reconnection in (almost) collisionless plasmas
Burn control of fusion reactors by means of Artificial Neural Networks
Relaxation phenomena in toroidal magnetic configurations (profile consistency, dynamo theory, etc.)
Background
I graduated from the School of Sciences (Facultad de Ciencias) of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, UNAM with a BS in Physics in the year 1980, received the MS in 1982 from the same school, and got my Doctor's degree (PhD) from MIT in the field of Plasma Physics in the year 1986, and since then I work at the Instituto de Ciencias Nucleares (ICN) of the UNAM, as research staff. I also have been teaching in the School of Sciences of UNAM for the same period. I am married and have two (beautiful!) children.
